Congratulations!!
Fixing something feels really good when you're not quite sure where to go. I cant really help you on the blade fuse, but my guess is that it's original. If someone is gonna booger something up, it's usually to bypass a fuse. From reading the board a lot, I think these cars didn't have the best design of the electrical system. As to grounding properly, my 940 quit one day and I worked on it nearly a month before I gave in and had it towed to a Volvo shop. $275 later I found out it was a ground connection. Every time I raise a hood to do some kind of maintainance, I tighten all grounds I can see.
