Problem solved! 700 1989

I replaced the fuel-pressure regulator in my car today and it solved the problems with my 740. It was running VERY rich because the pressure reg was spitting fuel out through the vacuum line into the throttle body. This, of course, fouled the spark plugs rather nicely, so I replaced those as well.

The car no longer surges at idle or hesitate on acceleration...AND...it starts up every time no problem. It's so nice to have it running nicely. I replaced the O2 sensor, so now all I need to do is change the oil and I can get it emissions-tested again.

This forum provided a lot of invaluable information and I just wanted to thank everyone.
