It sounds like your oil pressure is on the low side. It's about half-scale on both my B20s (one new, one definitely far from new) at a hot idle, using 10W-30. At speed it's up around 3/4 scale.

You should be able to go 2K-3K miles without adding oil, unless it's leaking.

What you're describing sounds like the engine is getting pretty elderly. Even Volvos can't help but finally do that. That's what oil consumption and lowish pressure would tell me, at least.
