I'm putting my '75 164 up for sale, along with a lot of "accessories" (see below), and was wondering if any of you was interested.
It has 79,000 miles, is a 49-state (non-California) version -- it doesn't use a catalytic converter (and doesn't have the unleaded fuel restrictor), but it does have the air pump (which I had planned to remove). It also has an automatic transmission, A/C (which still works), and factory sunroof and power windows. It also has a really nice-sounding Blaupunkt Radio (4 speakers). The color is red with brown interior. I'm located in central New Jersey.
It runs well (given that it needs vacuum hoses, etc. - more on this below), has current license plates, insurance and inspection (but with a special Collectors car sticker, it didn't have to pass emissions tests) -- in other words, it is completely road legal.
It was originally bought and kept in Virginia (so it has very little rust), and then spent some time in New York (but wasn't driven much), and I bought it a year ago planning to make it a "project" to fix up (only slightly needs work, mostly vacuum hoses, cleaned injectors, etc.) and mostly upgrade with lots of "goodies", which are included in the sale.
My original plans were to fix this up really nice, adding a lot of goodies, and make it a fun weekend road car, enjoying the sound and feel of that grand, straight six. Unfortunately, we have had a change in personal plans (moving out-of-state, into a Condo with limited parking) and I can no longer keep it (along with a couple of other cars), so my loss is your gain. I have a lot of stuff for it that I have been acquiring over the past year but haven't yet had time to install:
1) Rallye/GT Instrument Panel [tach/speedo/odo, voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, fuel level], new-in-box (only 2 "QC check" miles on the odometer). Although this panel has the 4-cyl. tach, I also have one of the later "dual input" 4-cyl/6-cyl. tachometers (identical style) to swap it.
2) IPD antisway bars, 25/22 mm (brand new, in the box), including poly bushings, etc..
3) Trailer hitch: the old-style (big round tube, 2" square receiver) that Volvo used to sell before it went to the flimsier "Draw-Tite" copy with a weird sized receiver.
4) Lots of interior pieces, in expectation of installing 240 seats (remember that this year 164 is virtually a 240 from the firewall back -- even the original seats were a leather upholstery version of the 240 seats). So I have (all in brown), front center armrest, rear headrests (from '86-on 240s), and leather front and rear headrest pads (the inserts). [With '86-on seats, this will really look nice!]
Also, I was planning to upgrade the brakes. I have four rotors -- heavy-duty vented, and both cross-drilled and slotted, with a protective cadmium plating (to prevent surface rusting, a problem here when you don't use a car daily during rainy weather); front calipers (hard to get for this model year -- the rears are easy to find, though, as they're 240 parts), but without pads, as I hadn't yet decided on what pads I wanted; and new rubber hoses with new clips, for proper installation.
Aside from a couple of small (less than "dime" sized) rust perforations along the left edge of the windows, the body really needs little work (new mud flaps, etc.). The engine is due a routine valve lash adjustment (and I have a couple of valve cover gaskets already), and aforementioned vacuum hoses, which make it idle fast. The only really bad things are the leather seats -- which are really heavily cracked -- hence my interest in replacing the seats with '86-on seats. My final plans would have also been to put on 16" alloys and stickier tires, and put on a 240 steering wheel, too -- with the IPD sway bars and that engine, it would really have been a fine road car. Oh, and the sunroof crank is a little troublesome, but I have the IPD replacement gearbox, too, just haven't replaced it yet.
