I simply set it where I like it (a reasonable shift point with reasonable engagement). I believe there is a section under the FAQ section that talks about loosing until you can hear the cable bottom out (clicking) at the transmission then. This is then used as a starting point.

I don't know of consequences of having it adjusted a little from factory spec. The tranny experts here may be of more help in that regard.
