No Start /Backfires- 1800E - 1800 1970

I pulled the plugs and looked in at the cylinder/piston and the mark I was using was off. I'm pretty sure I'm at #1 TDC now. Still no start, but backfiring has stopped. Seems like fuel pump is not running except for intial 1 sec burst when you turn key on. I'm going to check that now.

Anyway to run pump without engine running and to check relay?
