Yes, just a while ago. Went back to points. Put in a new battery. Fiddled with the timing, and now I'm set.
How I got there.
Difficult starting, rough running until warm. Noticed timing was
about 30 35 degrees. Yikes!
Tried to adjust distributor. However, it was frozen into place.
Soaked it and got it freed up.
Decided to switch to electronic ignition. Totally screwed up the
wiring (my fault) and fried the pertronix.
Went through the wiring, put back in new points.
Still no start.
Got a new pertronix and a new distributor because the old one had a
broken hold down for the ignitor plate. It was easier than hunting
done the part. I'll recondition the old distributor and have a spare.
Still no start.
Went through the wiring again, put back in new points and a new
battery, and after a few tries, it started up.
Got the timing set to 12-15 degrees BTDC.
Had a lot of doubts on the way, but thanks for phil's and the 1800 list help.
I guess having a new good battery made a difference even though in
theory jumping it should have worked.
Runs pretty nice now. It was a pleasure to drive being in time and
having rear brakes for the first time since I bought it back in June.
Now that I am back to a running car, I'll give the pertronix a second
chance - later. On to new ventures.
