If you use the old-fashioned type of contact cement, when it is completely dry without a hint of tackyness left, you can cover it with newspaper or brown wrapping paper ( stronger), move the dashcover into place and shift it around as much as you want. Then pull the paper out gradually as you press the pad down in the area where you have withdrawn the paper. I put mine in without using this trick, making contact with the rear edge (toward the seats) first and then working it down toward the windshield, but I didn't have to deal with twists.
