A/C Compressor Question 700

Yes,
Mine did same thing. The clutch coil has shorted out and hotwiring the clutch
coil produced copious amounts of smoke from the clutch- it literally fried itself.
Prior to that, it was slipping and would not engage fully, that's what probably
overheated the coil.

take off the clutch, and inspect the coil. It take a little time, but no special tools
needed. Remove any parts that are in your way to make for more working room.
Turn the Compressor by hand and if it turns smoothly, it's good.

I ordered a New clutch from fcp groton, reconnect wire, works like new.
