Judging from your commment about lifting off the gas pedal a bit, I would suspect a vacuum leak.

The air hose - accordian pleated big tube - is prone to get little holes on the bottom side. I have found holes after removing the hose that I could not see on the car. A new hose is around $20 or so, and a snap to install.

With a leak there, the engine will get unmeasured air, and run a little lean. The ECU gets a message from the 02 sensor, and adds fuel according to the need as per the signal from the AMM. But the leaks throws all measurements off. Mixture will gradually get richer and richer, and then engine can stumble a bit. Lifting gas pedal helps a bit.

Good Luck,

Bob
