You can't adjust timing by moving the distributor... this ain't a chevy. :)

The timing is adjusted by the gears in the front of the engine. Possibly your timing belt slipped a gear.

But, it may not be timing... there's lots of stuff in the FAQ to peruse that I imagine your problem would fall under.
