If I understand you correctly, you want the top "adjusting strap"--the stock one is straight and about 7 inches long. But if you go to your local autoparts store, they ought to have a generic chromed one with a gentle bend to it (about 10 inches long). Cut it off where appropriate, drill a hole, and mount. That is how I have my Delco alternator mounted--this should work with most generator/alternators. You may have to grind the end that fits the block to get the right fit. This fix is, of course, easier with a drill press and grinder.

P.S. If "expenditure" is an issue, consider that you can get a Delco alternator for about $35. The trick to the swap is finding/welding a bottom bracket. I have also discovered a nice "third point" bracket for the back of the alternator. If you go this route, let me know and I'll send more details.
