You mentioned that you are having trouble shifting out of Park on a hill. I hope you already know to never let the transmission hold the car on a hill. This will wear out the parking pawl very quickly.
Best engineering practice when parking is to shift into Neutral, set parking brake firmly, and then when car has stopped all movement and being held in place only by the brake, shift into Park. When driving off, always shift into Neutral (or Drive or Reverse) first, then release the brake. I always follow this procedure, even when parking on the level. It's just a good habit to get into.
If your parking brake will not hold the car on a hill, get it adjusted so it will.
