George:
You are likely correct about a simple repair will restore the ability to generate electricity. However, upon removal of the unit I was shocked to see the distorted mounting holes in the generator flanges and mounting bracket. One of the generator flange bolt holes had elongated almost 100 percent and had worn through one of the support ribs. The other hole was about 50 percent elongated and the mounting bracket holes were ovalized too.
I am not unreasonably far from Susquehanna Spares in Harrisburg, PA and have verified that a couple of rebuilt units are available if I want them.
I am not very technically adept at electrical troubleshooting but would certainly take the generator out again and check the field windings for continuity if you would be kind enough to clarify where to place the test leads. Of course, if the mounting hole distortion presents the possibility of seing the generator emerge through the hood, then there is no point in further exploration.
Thanks in advance,
Joe M
