An O2 sensor is a good idea but it wouldn't affect just one gear. Cheap on the internet (I paid $106) for the direct fit bosch (13957 which fits your car). Suggested replacement cycle is 60K. Other have suggested than any three wire sensor would work -- Bosch service line didn't recommend due to differences in voltage output, etc.
