What Phil said. I have used .018 on the valves, and .016 on the points for over thirty years, and no problems. The bottom line is that the feeler gauge can be trusted more than a wonky dwell/tach device. God! The last dwell tach must be at least thirty years old too - but a feeler gauge is as true today as the day it was made.
