off topic, but i suspect the expertise is here... 1800

The transfer is pretty sttraight forward. Lot of work, but you'll be happy with when it's done.
Just take everything from the flywheel back and put it into the automatic 740 including the driveshaft and rear axle/differential. They are two very different ratios and the 5-speed on the auto rear end will not be a very good combo. The only thing to consider would be if the '88 M47 has a speedometer gear which may need to be plugged up, and the flywheel has the pick-up for the timing sensor, which it may not, as IIRC the sensor is on '89 and later ones.
