The bulb is working properly now that the field is energized
Glad to hear things have improved. But technically, the sentence should read, "Now that the bulb is working properly, the field is (pre) energized."
Once that happens, the alternator becomes self-energizing. And the D+ terminal isn't actually connected to "field windings", as in the older style of external voltage regulators that had/have a DF (field) terminal & wire.
