It is pretty hard for any of us to know for sure. One thing on the plus side, I would bet many brick owners have driven for months or even years with the check engine light on before getting it fixed. On the minus side, there are extreme situations that would suggest not driving it in the mean time, such as a faulty fuel pressure regulator dumping a lot of fuel into the cylinders.
What you could do, just to eliminate that one extreme first: Pull the oil dipstick and check for strong gasoline odor or increased oil level.
Oh, yes a faulty ECT will cause flooding, but that is pretty easy for your technician to check.
