I have a 1984 240GLE that has a beautiful interior, and zero cracks in the dash. The secret to dash longevity is to live in Northern Canada where harsh sunlight is minimal and temperatures are bearable, and to always keep your car indoors when not being driven.
I can just see the mass exodus of southern Volvo owners for northern BC in a quest for dash nirvana...
