I actually did call the cops on the day the accident happened. The officer came out and told me that if he filed a report, he'd have to give the kid who hit my car a citation. I didn't want to do that, it was an accident (though a really stupid one), and I still have to live across the street from these people, like some have pointed out.

I'm gathering data right now to submit to my lawyer, then he's going to write a letter back to the ins. co. stating that their offer is too low. I'll be happy with about $2000, really, and that's not much of a stretch from $1655.

I just want to say that the 2004 Sebring that I'm forced to drive for the time being is not even a quarter of the quality that my Volvo is.
