I would make sure the harness is correct for your application.
I used a single wire Bosch 11027 $18 at FCP Groton in my 85 with no problem it is set up for a 3 wire.
I also used a Bosch 13913 three wire sensor in my 92 $40 from your local Autozone. You have to splice the Volvo connector on to the 13913 as it' s original application and connector are for a Ford.
The heater allows for quicker operation in the correct temperature range. The exhaust heats up the sensor quickly and I have not noticed any problems using a single wire sensor in the 85.
If you have an 89 or newer with the OBD the single wire may give you a check engine light. So I got the 3 wire for $40 for my 92.
The bottom line is you can use a single wire sensor on your 84 with no problems. I am sure others will verify what I found.
