Replacing Front engene seals

I will be doing the timeing belt on my 1983 244 Turbo in the next few days and I was wondering how hard it is to replace the engene seals. I have heard that if they are not set just right they leak. How can I make sure they are set "just right" Also, at what point should I repalce the timing belt tensonor? I just bought this car, and I don't have a lto of history on it. Can I tell if the one I have is any good? Thanks and happy bricking.
