I have a block heater that I salvaged from the IH Scout II that used to push my snow plow before it met its destiny at the crusher. I don't remember exactly how it was plumbed in on the Scout, but it picks up its feed from a Y fitting in a coolant hose and returns it from the top (of the block heater), which has a little ball return blocker in it, to the same line -- at least, I think. I would like to see if I can install it in my 142 which, so far, has started fine at temps down to 10 degrees, but one of these days it will go down to 10 below zero and lower, and then a block heater may be a nice thing to have. Question: anyone have an idea where would be the best place to plumb it in? The heater hoses would be easiest, but I'm dubious that in that location it would circulate heated coolant to the block and head, where you really want it. I could tap the lower radiator hose as a supply, fabricating some sort of reduction T, but I'm at a loss as to where to return the heated coolant -- would have to be after the thermostat I suppose. Cut the the heater supply pipe that runs along the block behind the exhaust manifold and attach the return there? Might just as well return it to the heater hose, in that case. Any suggestions, ideas, comments? Please!
