I don't know about your year....but I client of mine had problems with "upper-half" readings. on the 1988 240, you need to pull the speedo/clock/dash assy
and there's a teenie printed-circuit board (push-in)in there which can cause faulty readings. I came across this information on Brickboard several years ago. It's practicly a freebie at Pick N Pull.
