high rev when accelerating 700 1989

sounds like a fryed clutch my friend....here is the classic test ...start the car moving using 1st gear and get up to about 10mph....then skip all the other gears and place the car into the highest gear...floor the gas pedal. If the clutch is working well the revs should sharply drop off and the car should lugg and chugg...and possibly stall. If your clutch is fryed the revs will hover inplace or even rise. good luck
