The benefits of PCV are mostly environmental, but maybe there's also another advantage...
On one of mine, I've got the cute little oil cap filter (no way to hook a hose to the carb filters on that car), and at first I also had one on the teardrop where a PCV valve would normally go. That's venting the crankcase two places, but passively. I found that oil would bubble out the cap filter, so I added a real PCV system -- it all stays perfectly clean now.
I've also seen this on other motors, where oil would seep out the seal between the cap and valve cover. Add PCV and it stops doing that.
