Ok Folks:
I KNOW I'm not the first to encounter this 'trivial' problem, because it's happened to me previously with other bricks. 'Bought an '88 245 for $500 to replace son's 'hurricane damaged' '89 244 (he and friends were blown off a causeway while trying to go surfing during hurricane Charlie last Summer - hope they live long enough to get smart).
Anyway, thanks to ebay and the efforts of generous Volvo friends, I've been 'cleaning up' a variety of normal gremlins inherent in a sub $1k car, and just as I installed the last (beltline) trim piece the car lacked, I opened the glovebox to have the rubber lock surround come apart in my hand. Naturally, this is not sold as a separate item by Volvo, or any of the normal sources of supply (as we all know), I really can't cpountenance paying $50 for a replacement lock...just to throw the new lock away, and it really annoys me to have the metal lock knob detracting from an otherwise decent and complete interior.
I'll bet there is a market for someone to make these things, as it seems everyone I know with a 240 has had this problem at one time or another. By the way, the earlier (pre '86) rubber knob won't fit the later cars, and vice-versa - been there.
I've even thought of using soft rubber slot car tires as a substitute...any other bright ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Dennis
