There should be three wires:
Battery positive-- I think I attached mine to the #1 fuse (maybe #2??). There are spare spade connections where the wires attach to the fuse connectors. It should only have power when the ignition switch is in the on or run position. Also be sure to attach to the output side so the gauge wiring will be fuse protected.
Battery negative--Attach where you can get a good ground.
gauge light--I spliced off of the clock light power source. I did the tach/small clock conversion (out of a GL...I have a DL). and the clock is mounted in the bottom blank and the volt gauge is on the top blank.
I configured it this way because you will notice a low volt problem at a glance. If the volt gauge is on the bottom then the steering wheel obstructs your view.
