I have had the best luck with Pioneer's. One thing that I like about them is the ones with remotes you can get another remote that attaces to the steering wheel. With the unit I have (DEH-P4700MP I think) it made my semi-stock speakers come to life. When I frist got it people thought I had a small sub in the trunk when I didnt. It also can power a small sub with no amp. Sony is another o.k choice, I have had some good luck with it. What you chose will be better then the stock system.
