They're reliable, but like any used car, do expect troubles to occur every so often. Read the FAQ for some good general guidelines. At this mileage, shocks/struts and engine mounts should have been replaced at least once already. If the tranny has not been regularly flushed, this is the time to start expecting troubles. If it has, then you should be fine for a while.
Price depends on area, and of course, condition. Here on the west coast (CA/OR/WA), Volvos tend to sell for much more than in the midwest. What matters is whether you feel it's worth it. If the overall condition of the interior/exterior/heating & cooling/powertrain/electrical aspects are all good or better, then the price would not be out of line for most of the country.
As for what they sold for in 1990 ... I think around $25,000.
