How do you clean up a (used) distributor 700

Prior to replacing the seal I cleaned mine with plain old brake cleaner. Did not damage either the wiring or the connector.
BTW replacing the seal with the tool listed in the FAQ's is a breeze, without the tool it is terrible.
I too carry a spare.
