New style window w/built-on moulding will fit the older cars.
Wrong way:
Call glass shop, they ask what make/model/year, you say "'86 Volvo - - - "
They put '86 in their computer and you're stuck with it.
They need to talk to the boss and everyone else to get the OK to change the window style.
Right way:
Call glass shop, they ask what make/model/year, you say "'92 Volvo 240 - - - "
Then when they're done quoting a price, you say,
"Well, it's actually an '86 but I want to change over to the newer style window, and I know it fits." They don't care, the computer already says '92.
I had the glass changed on an 86 and an '89. Easiest dealings were with the 2nd method above.
They'll usually tell you there's rust on the frame below glass, and so won't warranty this and that aspect of it. Probably true for an 18 year old car.
Tell 'em you X-rayed it and know all about the rust!!
