Mysterious 'Low Coolant' lamp

The float is a magnetic ring which triggers a reed switch. There are several styles depending on the year. The float can stick with age and crud build up. Pull the tank and you will see it underneath. I have disconnected mine and keep an eye on the coolany level the old fashioned way, open hood and look.
