Thanks for the post, ummm well my car with "the" problem still off for the winter ... what i did was swap parts into my every day driver and so far all this parts check out ok.
what you did make me think of loose grounds ... may of fixed your electrical issue ... when replaced the gasket (sorry to heard that ), you must undo all the conectors in the head plus ground wires ... hope it does not came back again ...
