Fuel Pump Relay Notes, 760 Turbo Wagon, FPR

Well the FPR raised it ugly head again. This time I pulled the cover and noted the operation of the relay. This may help others who are troubleshooting the relay. When the ignition is rotated toward the start position both relay tabs move toward the closed position, When the cover is removed you can view this happening as the ignition circuit is closed. Imagine pinching the ends of the relay together as if you were holding a AA battery between your thumb and forefinger. If either fails to stay closed this is your problem. I observed mine close momentarily and release, it seems the coil (Electromagnetic) portion of the relay lacks sufficient strength to keep the relay closed. A little help by carefully nudging the relay shut allowed me to get home where I changed it out once and for all. I had soldered it a few weeks back and much to my amazement it worked fine, till now...If anyone experiences a similar failure and resolders the relay as shown in the FAQ I recommend ordering a replacement, If its like mine it wont last too long. The cover of the relay can be easily pried off to observe its operation. Good luck and thanks to all who have helped me here. Anytime I can contribute I feel obligated. Best Wishes

Jerry
