Could it be the coil? 1800 1970

Mine does the sam thing, I changed out ALL of the ignition parts, I even put in a brand new set of points, coil, bla bla bla. . .

Still does it.

I think mine is a fuel injection issue, are you running carbs or injectors?

I'd also check the mixture, too rich, (and I mean REALLY rich) can cause that too. I've replaced the MAP sensor on mine and it really helped. . . until the used one I found also failed.
