Could it be the coil? 1800 1970

Doesn"t really sound like the coil but...I don't really like the lame spark that the OEM coil gives so I use an aftermarket bosch one (from the 75 240 with electronic ign.,) Any 12V coil is going to give you a decent spark, why not pick one up and give it a try.
