Almost everyhting I've learned about Volvos has come from this site, Chilton's, and applying the two, so I appreciate any help you might offer a novice. Although no battery warning light came on, the fuel guage recently started to waver on my 87 Volvo and almost immediately afterwards the car wouldn't start. Checked the battery at a nearby parts shop, and it was low, but the new battery I bought (I had somewhere to go right then) was discharged after about 100 miles.
I replaced the alternator, but after doing so, the battery warning light came on (along with the parking light, wipers, bulb failure light); I noticed the alternator belt was frayed, so I changed it and the AC belt. My problem, which I haven't seen anywhere on this site or others, is that the AC belt falls off when I start up the car. I'm pretty sure I have everything tightened down. Could it be that the harmonic balancer needs to be replaced? The alternator belt works fine. If it's the harmonic balncer, what are the steps to replacing it?
Thanks for the help.
