Hi Gert: I wonder if Volvo, in their predictable wisdom, made the adjustment mechanism in a softer metal than the worm gear? It may have been overtightened by a PO? Possibly the adjuster is worn and can be inspected. Regardless, I would remove the top cover to see what has happened inside. Please let us know about your findings and your results.
