That's an interesting idea -- thanks. I don't believe that's what's happening, though... I'm using a vacuum distributor that advances far further under part throttle than at full throttle, and there's no problem in those conditions.
The Lumenition specs say to gap the plugs down to .025" (.6mm), and not to use any sort of high-output coil. I think it just can't provide enough voltage at a sufficient rate.
What I plan to do is use the Lumenition signal to trigger a GM HEI module, and fire a Blaster 2 coil with that. This is known to support plug gaps of .045" under extreme loads, and it's a lot cheaper than an MSD box.
