The manual shows the use of two studs with screwdriver slots at the top end
to use when installing the head on the gasket. Put one at each of 2 opposite
corners of the block and set the head on them. After installing a few headbolts
then remove them.
Head studs carry their own set of problems- remember the old Ford V8-85s with
aluminum heads? They'd get galvanic corrosion between the studs and the head
and a LOT were removed with cold chisels. They finally came out with a core
drill to drill between the studs and the head where they were corroded but
since it was a mix of aluminum oxide/hydroxide they were only good for a few
holes. Even in my small town I can remember seeing a pile of those heads
4 feet high! Aluminum scrap is up so you don't see such things any more!
If you have a water jacket to bolt hole gasket leak you can certainly get
rust around a headbolt on a cast arn head too.
