Thanks for the info and offers. Cell numbers and locations list would be a good thing to have along, though distances are greater out there. 300 miles east of Denver is a fur piece!
I am planning to go 80 into Wyoming and drop down to Denver - uncles and aunts there and probably spend a day in the environs. Depending on how much of a rush I'm in, I'd definitely be interested in stopping in Grand Junction to look at old parts and cars. Why else drive across the country!
I bought this car in LA 6 weeks ago, flew out cheap on Jetblue tuned it, replaced filters and drove it up to N. Cal where I got it up on a lift to look it over better, replaced a center link end, fuel pump spacer block and gasket, thermostat, and closely examined the trans support (this had been built as an automatic and changed to M40). I also made of list of parts and things to do before I drive it east:
OD which I've crated and am trying to get shipped out (UPS wants $100!!!).
2" Simons exhaust is waiting there for me to install.
Left axle seal needs replaced. Also pinion seal. axle straps, differential gasket.
driver's door hinge, SEAT WEBBING.
The drive up from LA was uneventful. Seems somebody put in a rebuilt B20 which ran quite strong. I didn't check the compression yet. It also has a functioning booster!
Soon after, in another further foolish moment, I bid on and won another 67 with a great original body, but isn't running. Also in LA, so I must at least relocate it in LA or north on this journey. If the motor's unsalvageable i.e. it ain't gonna run without being pulled, I thought to pull and junk the motor and tow it behind the other one and go south (avoid mountains). This seems very unlikely and even more foolhardy, but then maybe I'd get to meet George.
