Quite frankly, I'm kind of pissed you didn't give him the ticket he deserved.
Why does this douche bag get off with a (relatively) small slap on the wrist, when I seem to get tickets for very stupid minor things?
Some of the tickets I've gotten (the ones I got out of paying):
Rear license plate lights being out (I drive a 245 and the tailgate wires were broken)
Not having proof of insurance on me (my insurance card had expired the day before and I had forgotten to put the new one in the glove box. This actually isn't so bad, as I should have had my proof with me.)
Burned out license plate lights (AFTER I had the damn things fixed and they did work when I was pulled over.)
Time's I've been pulled over and not issued a ticket, but had officers looking all over my car with flashlights (looking for who knows what), the official reason I was pulled over:
Burned out rear license plates (a separate incident from the 2 above.)
Tail lamp was "too bright"
Phantom burnt out running light (the light was fine)
Failure to dim my bights (I was driving down a dark country road at 1:00am and the cop car was parked just behind a rather large rock... enough to be visible but not enough to be obvious. There wasn't another car ANYWHERE around.)
I have received a couple of speeding tickets, but in those cases, I did deserve them. (There was one I did not.) I have since seriously modified my driving habits and will never repeat the same mistakes. So I understand that we all make mistakes and deserve second chances.
That said, I never exceeded the speed limit in such a fashion (never more then 15 mph.) Now, I don't even go 5 mph over the limit. I'm that paranoid.
In my opinion, giving people a break as you did is just stupid. This guy deserved to be punished, and you just let him go with a fraction of the punishment he deserved.
Jerk offs like that don't deserve to drive, EVER. Going damn near 100 mph? Are you kidding me?
I apologize if I seem a bit hostile in this post. This is not my usual style of posting, and I don't mean to be hostile towards you. For the most part, I do respect the fact that you are out there protecting the masses. It's the times folks get let go with just a "warning" or a small slap on the wrist that makes me lose a bit of respect.
This is also a topic that sort of hits home with me because of my all-to-often unnecessary interaction with police officers while driving. In a case where you pulled a guy over that absolutely did deserve to be stopped, and did deserve a much larger ticket, you let him get off fairly easy.
How in the world is that fair to anyone? Why did this piece of crap deserve a break?
Again, no disrespect intended, but it's still something that upsets me.
