engine suddenly quits. completely dead 700 1992

Check the FAQ for Crank Position Sensor, aka RPM sender.

If yours is the original, it is a prime suspect and costs about $30 at FCP Groton.

Replacing it shouldn't be too hard, but it's tricky to access and may also be stuck due to age.

Here is a picture of a Crank Position Sensor in place—apparently on a partially removed engine(?)
