have you tried turning the engine over by hand? Does it seem stiff? Really sounds to me like something is seizing... that happened to me with a fiber gear replacement and the cam gear spacer was a few thousanths too thick... I tightened the gear down, started 'er up, she fired, made a bunch of loud noise, then shattered my new fiber gear...
