OK let's back up.
When you turn the key to "run" (position II) do all the idiot lights turn on?
Turn to start (position III) before the idiot lights turn off. Do they go out momentarily then fade back on? Is there a loud click obviously from under the hood?
If all of the above are true, but the click of the solenoid is absent, you are not getting enough amperage from the battery to anything. The first place to look are the cables, clamps and grounds (assuming you have absolutely ruled out the battery). As another poster mentioned, the voltage is an indicator, but a good load test is essential...or just replace the battery if it is more that 4 years old.
The clutch switch (if so equiped) is an electrical contact switch inside the car, usually near the pivot of the clutch pedal. All the manual tranny 240's I have ever seen did not have one, but a late model 7-series might. If this is not doing it's job, the starter will not engage (starter interrupt).
If all else fails, you could try jumping the starter directly from the battery with a jumper cable. This is inherently dangerous to man and sensitive electronics. It only verifies that the starter works or doesn't and since the starter is rarely the issue, and guessing at your mechanical expirience from your response, I would not suggest this nor repeated push starts.
How long have you owned the car. Seemingly unimportant question, how heavy is your keychain (big bundle of keys or just the ignition key and house key)?
