Getting a 760 700 1989

My father-in-law is giving me a 1989 760. He said it was running well until the battery went dead and he tried to start it off an emergency jump unit. He believes something shorted or otherwise got to much current. (blown the computer, starter?) Any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated.
