I found it unusual that you'd have so much rust in your tank that it would plug the intank filter. My '80's tank is clean.

Then I saw your explanation:
"I could shine a light down in the tank and see the rust all over everything and built up down in the area where the pump and strainer sits. The car I own had sat for 4 years with less than a quarter of a tank of fuel in it before I bought it, "
