IPD sells two things:
1) replacement map pockets
2) a cover that fits over the original picket, and is glued on -- I think this combination (of this cover plus whatever remains of the original) actually makes a stronger, somewhat reinforced, improvement (although it lacks something in appearance.
In any case, see what they're offering. If you don't like either of them, then you can try the surgery solution :-).
